A lot has been written about the housing crisis in Canada’s First Nation communities. Adequate housing is not available in many communities, resulting in high rates of overcrowding and long waitlists. The current housing crisis is embedded within a series of complex layers. This study focuses on the crisis currently seen in Manitoba, and includes a consideration of numbers of units, conditions of units, units in need of repair, and numbers of people on wait lists for homes. Furthermore, this study will explore the implications of the current housing crisis and the barriers to constructing and maintaining sufficient quality housing in First Nation communities in Manitoba.
