The sudden passing of Dr. John Loxley made necessary the appointment of a new Principal Investigator for the Manitoba Research Alliance’s (MRA) project, Community-based Solutions to Poverty: Challenges and Possibilities. The MRA’s Research Committee has selected Dr. Shauna MacKinnon for this role, and Shauna has graciously accepted this responsibility.
Many of you know Shauna MacKinnon in her role as Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Urban and Inner-City Studies at the University of Winnipeg. She has been a Research Associate at the CCPA since 2013, previously serving as Director of the Manitoba office from 2005 to 2013. Dr. MacKinnon has been in a leadership role in the management and decision-making of the Manitoba Research Alliance since its inception. Dr. MacKinnon is meaningfully connected to the communities and community organizations in which she teaches and works. The strength of her relationships in the community will ensure that this work continues and additional partnerships form during the duration of this Partnership Grant.
We are so grateful to Dr. John Loxley for his expert leadership with the Manitoba Research Alliance for almost 20 years. The CCPA and the MRA, with Dr. Shauna MacKinnon in the position of Principal Investigator, will continue Dr. Loxley’s legacy and the important work of this unique community academic partnership.
